On the Wall: LEGO creations from Brickworkz

June 1, 2006

Brian Korte, 28, runs his own technology consulting business in Richmond, Virginia. His latest business venture, Brickworkz LLC, was created to sell customized portraits, logos, and other art made entirely from LEGO bricks. From June through July, his entire collection will be on display at C3. Come on by C3 and check out more than 150,000 LEGO bricks! Opening reception is Saturday, June 17 at 11am.

"This all began as a challenge to see if I could create a mosaic for my friends made entirely from LEGO bricks. Now, 50% of my work week involves the design and creation of LEGO art. The entire collection will be featured at C3 in June. I am particularly excited to see how people react to such a unique medium.

For me, the artistic expression is in the creation. Placing thousands of individual squares into a bigger frame can seem daunting and tedious, but there is a reward for the discipline. Each "pixel" works with the other pixels to convey an overall image, making each pixel crucial to the process. When you can stand back from the mosaic and feel what is being conveyed, I have successfully expressed myself.

At C3, you will see my entire collection and you may even see me there, working on newly commissioned mosaics. Stop by and introduce yourself" --Brian Korte, Founder of Brickworkz LLC
