Brickworld 2007, Day 1

It's hard to believe that a day ago, I was in Richmond, loading up a cargo van and stuffing all of my Brickworkz stuff into the back before getting on the road. So much has happened between now and then!

I left at noon on Wednesday and made it to my Uncle's place in Columbus, OH. We had planned on working on the next new Brickworkz mosaic- "The Pollards: Revisited" (photos coming soon) but we never got around to it. After 8 hours in the car and a 3-mile run, I was just too worn out to make it.

Today (thurs), I left Ohio at noon and got here pretty late in the evening. I had planned on stopping somewhere North of the city (and any potential rush-hour traffic) to go clothes shopping for the Brickworld Weekend. Since none of my clothes fit anymore, I wanted to treat myself. As a special treat, I bought myself my very first pair of Chuck Taylors. I have wanted these shoes my whole life. I told myself last month when I was about to just get some, that it would be a great reward if I made it to the 50-pound goal. When I passed 50lbs yesterday morning, I knew today would be the day.

So when I finally made it to the Westin Hotel here in Wheeling, Illinois (30 mins from the city), I was worn out but excited. I walked into the main ballroom, and my jaw dropped. The room was half of the size of the average Price Club (Costco) warehouse. And the AFOLs were out building and setting up their stuff.

AFOL is short for "Adult Fans Of Lego" - the audience for this conference. Well, at least Friday's session that is. I backed the van up to the loading dock and got my vendor area all set up, saying hello to the familiar faces from last year. I'm terribly excited for tomorrow.

In the morning, I'm scheduled to discuss LEGO mosaics to the AFOLs. Should be tons of fun.

Play well,

Brian Korte

That looks like the cargo van we used at Aqualon! Sorry about the smell. =(

And congrats on the 50lb goal!! I just hit my 20 and am super excited. I promised myself a hair cut. You'll see it when you get back.

I know you'll "WOW" everyone!!!!!
