Brickworld 2007, Day 4

The final day of Brickworld was a blur of activity! Here's the breakdown:

7am: the wake up call. Having only been asleep 4 hours, I smacked the alarm off at 6:45. Good thing the follow-up phone call scared me out of the Heavenly Bed. I walked over to the mosaic project for Jeff and Olivia and started plunking down pieces as I waited for my brain to wake up.

8am: I got cleaned up and ready to head downstairs. This morning, I would try to pick up a wireless signal for the other computer that I brought with me. If my plan worked, I'd have one flat-panel playing videos of the mosaic process and the other showing photos of previous builds with my 'helperz' - since they really needed some representation at the event!

9am: the crowds poured in. I was still working on getting a signal when the hoards rushed us like a wave. No time to fiddle with electronics anymore- it was time to talk LEGO.

1pm: I looked up and realized that 4 hours had gone by and I hadn't moved from my position. Yesterday, I had taken only one break (bathroom) and today was a bit more stiff from last night's run, so I needed to walk around. I decided to stretch a bit behind the table as I talked to visitors.

3:30pm: the event was about to close at 4, and for the entire weekend, i was devoting my time to getting Brickworkz stuff ready. I hadn't really taken the time to walk around and enjoy what everyone had brought with them. I spent the next half-hour photographing and really soaking up the creativity. AFOLs do some amazing stuff with LEGO.

4pm: they flickered the lights to signal that it was time to exit. Everyone had a blast, but in a way, we were all relieved to catch our breath I think.

6pm: after another Awards ceremony, we all got to publicly thank Adam and Bryan for putting on a hell of a weekend. It was now time to take-down.

8:30pm: With all of my stuff safely back in the cargo van, I hit the gym and went upstairs to change. I came back down refreshed and took a look at all that had happened. The ballroom was completely abandoned- almost empty, where thousands had once been just hours earlier.

10pm: I started a newsletter to the new folks who signed up at the show. Caught some TV, got caught-up (sort of) on emails, and hit the sack.

It was another exhausting day, but this was the bitter-sweet way to end the weekend. I had a great time meeting everyone, meeting more AFOLs and the general public... just enjoying the creativity in that room was worth the price in gas to get here from Virginia.

Absolutely A+

Play well,

Brian Korte

Greetings!

We met you at BrickWorld on Day 4 when my son Garrett and I stopped at your booth. It was great to learn about your craft at which you are a master craftsman. While we were visiting, you photographed Garrett holding his lego mosaic creation of a Pez "Mr. Ugly" and another one of the word "LEGO" (surprise, surprise), and mentioned you may post them on your web site. So that we might see them (if still possible) please let us know where to navigate and we'll have a look.

Thanks in advance,

Jolie Renee and Garrett Paulson,
Westfield, IN
