All in all, it's looking great- the whole thing is really coming together. I expect it to be complete by the end of the day, and maybe we can get it out to Illinois right away!

Here is the final plan. The challenge was to present Arif and Shelly in a small amount of space (with few pixels to work with) without washing them out AND without too much color differential between their natural skin tones. I spent a good deal of time getting the balances to look just right, and am very happy with how this turned out.

It took about 3 hours to wrap and prepare the LEGO mosaic for shipment. We wanted to be sure to protect the corners (the only potential weak spot during shipping) and also be sure that all the LEGO elements stay stuck to the baseplates. As a result, lots of bubble wrap and cardboard elements are securing the mosaic within the "custom box" (made from old Mac hardware boxes)

To make the custom box attractive, we wrapped the outside in a nice, brown paper. I got it into the car and took it over to ship, where they announced that we'd have to strip the paper completely. Great.

It is secure in the box, but now the outside is ugly- So now, the "Frankenstein" box will be what Winton and Andra see when they open it today. I hope the surprise involves a blindfold! =)

The challenge here is to take one of these logos into the most color-appropriate LEGO pattern possible. With such a limited LEGO palette, the best LEGO match is the dark red version, since LEGO's dark red is almost exactly the same as the Cool-de-sac logo's dark red.

The light (lime) green does have a LEGO equivalent, but that color is all but extinct at this point, and there simply aren't enough available in the world to accomplish a mosaic full of them.

The only alternative choice is the light blue, which might look similar. That color is a bit harder to find, and, as a result, a bit more expensive to obtain than the other colors.

This is a black & white rendering of Ava's toes. I think the pink border would really tie the piece together in a girly, fun way!!! The total number of LEGO parts would be 8,440 and the project would cost $750 to make. ($400 for materials deposit and $350 when completed)

Also, the project includes a video of the assembly process, so you can watch the movie (and show Ava when she's old enough to appreciate it!) - examples of this are on the videos page.

Send me an email at brian@brickworkz.com or call me at 502-3983 to get started. I have all the parts in stock (may need to order a few more pinks!) so we can start right away.

Right now, I'm trying to track down light blues in this quantity- once I find out how many are available online (they're somewhat rare) I can get a better estimate of how much it'll cost to produce.

Silvia,

I really appreciate your follow-up with me! I took some time today to work out the design in a way that works with Legos. I'm very happy with how this design worked out! I took your suggestions and cropped out all the other people, and due to the Lego color limitations, I reduced the background to black to make everything else jump out.

The piece will be assembled on a framed wooden base to securely hang on a wall. The frame is designed to be minimal so the Lego mosaic appears to "float" from the wall by an inch or so.

(see an example of the frame's "float" here ) Your mosaic would be this tall, but 15" less wide than the one pictured.

We can make this mosaic and frame it for $2,200. The first half is required as a deposit (so we can secure all the materials) and then the remaining is due when the mosaic is ready to ship. Shipping is estimated to start at $100, depending on your level of urgency. We use a Fedex account to keep rates low.

We do accept credit cards via PayPal. If you do not have a paypal account, I would be happy to take you through this secured method of payment. My PayPal account is brian@brickworkz.com

Please contact me at brian@brickworkz.com or call my cell directly at (804) 502-3983 to get started, and I can get the process going this week, getting the parts needed and plans prepared.

Thank you. I look forward to help making you and your husband smile!
