This LEGO mosaic was created for Rob and Tonya Klause, based on a baby portrait taken of their daughter Mia. Mia's brother Graham was the model for the first Brickworkz color mosaic "Baby Klause" [read about that project here]

I wanted to keep this a grayscale LEGO mosaic. The photographer did such a great job capturing contrast. Working the portrait into a Lego mosaic did not take as much additional work as other designs have taken since the contrast was set so perfectly with the original photograph.

The project took about 15 hours of build time. Along the way, I had some help which really saved me some time from the total project. (Big thanks go to my trusty helpers!) The project was completed over my Christmas break in 2006 and will remain with me for most of 2007 before permanent display at the Klause home in Ashburn, Virginia.

In all, I am very pleased with how the LEGO mosaic turned out. The mosaic was mounted using a time-tested process of mine and, as a result, the seams between base plates are virtually impossible to detect.

View this LEGO mosaic yourself at one of 2007's baby & child expos in Virginia! And don't miss Rob Klause's terrific kitchen video blog at AttiFood.com!
