This piece was commissioned by Gary Powers Jr., founder of the Cold War Museum and son of famous CIA U-2 pilot Gary Powers. Gary saw the Brickworkz gallery at C3 and wanted a cool way to showcase his new museum. He contacted Brickworkz in August and the Lego mosaic made its debut at Gallery 5 in downtown Richmond, VA during a Russian Art exhibit.
Gary's plans are to travel with the mosaic, using it as a showpiece to get attention and support for the Cold War Museum that he champions. Presently, the Cold War museum is online only, but plans are underway for a physical museum in Lorton, Virginia.
I was very pleased and honored to be a part of this build, considering the importance of his cause. Using education to prevent political struggles is something we can all get behind. (learn more about the Cold War Museum at www.coldwar.org)
