This LEGO portrait was commissioned as a Christmas present for Jason Hammel, pitcher for the Baltimore Orioles. The LEGO mosaic is significant, both because he is a huge fan of LEGO and because the portrait commemorates his shut-out game against the Atlanta Braves in June 17, 2012.

Hammel pitched a no-hitter all the way into the 7th inning, when only one hit got away. The baseball game was still a complete shut out. A shut-out is very significant achievement for a pitcher's career.

We got word on Christmas day that Jason loved the Lego portrait. "It was perfect!!!!!" Mrs. Hammel wrote.

The making-of video is a blend of the game footage and a stop-motion time lapse of the LEGO mosaic build, mixed with "Panic Switch" - Jason's bullpen warmup music. That video is online below.

(Also, you might see a "cameo" of my 3 year old daughter, who insisted on being a part of this Lego build. She's not bad!)
